Thee Lakesiders are proud of their influences. Their dreamy ballads take a note from the rock n’ roll of Ritchie Valens, the pop of Chris Montez and the R&B of Rosie and the Originals. However, to them their music is not revivalist. As Chicana(o)s they see themselves as part of a living legacy of music from the barrios.

In conversation with Melissa Dueñas the young duo, Necalli del Lago and Izcalli Marie, discuss how Chicana(o) and lowrider culture has influenced their style of music and dress. They also talk about the pain that inspired their sold-out single “Parachute,” currently being reissued on Big Crown Records.
