In modern Latino culture, there is a deep-seated love for Morrissey, the once frontman of the Smiths. His lyrics speak to the pain of love, heartache and tragedy, and devoted fans really connect to this sentiment. For the first Thursday of each month, L.A.’s Morrissey fans flock to Eastside Luv in Boyle Heights to pay tribute to this pop music icon in a non-traditional karaoke style, where performers must have lyrics memorized. Some even accompany themselves with their own instruments.
