DJ Smiles Davis embraces the traditional party atmosphere with her own special affair, the Mona’s Room at the Friend. It’s a weekly party — women-centric, with men allowed — in Silver Lake. Smiles’ fortitude and conjuring vision spawned a multi-genre concoction of bombastic yet soulful music, ranging from R&B to Dancehall to Funk Carioca. Mona’s Room is a year old.
