Frustrated by the lack of justice for Black victims of police brutality, Jade Charon — a choreographer, dancer, and filmmaker — has dedicated her most recent work to bringing awareness to the racial oppression faced by Black Americans.
Weaving together a variety of dance styles, including African, ballet, post-modern, and Black social dance, Charon combines film and live performance to communicate social issues to her audience.
“I think when we use our platform to talk about these issues, it becomes more than just a performance—we become advocates for social change” said Charon. “If we bring it to the forefront, we give the audience the freedom to choose what they’re going to do with it.”
