Sue Jin Kim is an accomplished, but little known, Korean American singer-songwriter. She performs mostly at Tuesday Night Project. Her emotional songs (mostly about love) can be heard on YouTube and SoundCloud. Kim recently spoke with Annenberg Media’s Yijin “Catherine” Wang about her struggles as an Asian American.
“Out of the terrible can come the beautiful. I took pride of my struggle because I was able to experience solidarity with other human beings through music,” Kim said.
In this interview, she talks about being bullied as a kid. Nothing stopped her then, and nothing now. Her meteoric rise as educational professional includes a Ph.D. in K-12 Leadership from University of Southern California. At present, she is dean of Alta Public Schools in Huntington Park, Los Angeles. She is also hilariously funny, as you will find out. Listen in.
