Bloco Obini, an all-female drum ensemble, brings music and dance from the African diaspora to audiences across Los Angeles. In addition to performing, Founder, Kahlil Cummings, and ensemble member, Rachel Hernandez, also teach drum and dance classes, fusing West African, Afro-Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban styles.
This video takes us into their studio where a community of strong women put their dancing bodies on the line to understand the history and perform the culture of their African traditions.
